NBA referee Eric Lewis retired as the NBA investigated his social media actions, per Karl Rasmussen of Sports Illustrated.
Lewis allegedly had a burner account he used to engage with fans criticizing his officiating. The burner was outted, and Lewis’ brother came forward as the shadow account. Check out some of the tweets below, via @PabloEscoburner on X (formerly Twitter), H/T SBNation:
The burner continued to go at it with Laker Nation, until being exposed, with Mark Lewis (brother) apparently stepping in:
He was really going at it with those Lakers fans. You have to love #NBATwitter.
This was one of the moments Lakers fan were most upset about. Eric Lewis missed a foul call, as Jayson Tatum hit LeBron James on a drive at the end of a big Saturday night Los Angeles Lakers vs. Boston Celtics game on January 28.
LeBron could’ve won the game on the layup, but the non-call led to overtime. The Tatum and the Celtics won the basketball game 125-121.
With Lewis retirement announcement, the NBA has ended their investigations, per a statement from NBA Communications:
Eric Lewis is probably thinking, “Before ya’ll finish up that investigation, ima head on out.”
