LeBron James and Rajon Rondo strategy to outcoach coaches Erik Spoelstra and Brad Stevens

Rajon Rondo recently spoke to JJ Redick on his The Old Man and the Three podcast. He described he and LeBron James‘ strategy in the 2020 NBA playoffs for the Los Angeles Lakers.

LeBron and Rondo would try to outsmart, not the players, but the coaches of opposing teams.

Rondo on LeBron’s suggestion, (H/T MSN):

“If we get Miami, I got Spo. And if we get Boston, you got Brad.

LeBron had experience being coached by Erik Spoelstra on the Miami Heat, and Rondo had experience with Brad Stevens on the Boston Celtics.

Rondo continued saying he’d never met another NBA player who tried to outcoach the opposing coach until he played with LeBron. Both Rondo and LeBron are regarded as two of the smartest basketball minds ever.

That 2020 Lakers team beat the Heat in the 2020 NBA Finals, 4-2, with LeBron winning Finals MVP.
