The FIBA World Cup took a painful turn, as Serbian player Borisa Simanic lost a kidney after taking an elbow during a game against the South Sudan.

Simanic had two surgeries due to the injury. More on the injury, via The Guardian:

“…due to changes in kidney tissue vitality, the entire kidney had to be surgically removed.”

Simanic is currently recovering in Manila.

This is a scary freak accident. We’re hoping for a full recovery.
