Kevin Durant and Draymond Green showed support for Team USA after their upset loss to Lithuania in the FIBA World Cup.
Team USA has been under scrutiny for their lack of size, but also, overall talent level. The size played a big part in the loss.
Durant and Draymond have experience dealing with adversity in FIBA play. Their Team USA squad was upset by France, 83-76, in the opening game of the 2020 Summer Olympics. That was their first game, so USA Basketball carried that pressure and scrutiny throughout the tournament, until the gold-medal game.
On the loss to France, a New York Post headline read, “Shame on Team USA basketball”, while comparing the loss to the Mike Tyson-Buster Douglas fight.
It was bad.
Team USA persevered and won gold in 2020 (2021), poetically against France. Draymond and KD are sending that same energy to our 2023 FIBA World Cup team.
Team USA’s World Cup team bounced back on Tuesday by beating Italy, 100-63, so they’re off to a good start.
